Censorship and book bans are a singular challenge facing public libraries. Attempts to ban or censor materials come in many shapes and from several different directions. When they originate with concerned parents or community members, it is always important to engage in difficult conversations. But when they become politicized or performative, it is necessary to understand that an agenda may drive them. Knowing the differences and being properly equipped with digital tools, organizing skills, and policy frameworks is key.  Join John Chrastka, executive director of EveryLibrary, for a session on practical, actionable tips to prepare your board and staff, manage crisis communications, evaluate policies, and activate allies to protect your library and your readers.

After the presentation we will first break up into regional rooms for facilitated discussion. We invite you to share your thoughts and questions with colleagues and gain new information. Then we will join back up for a short time to share out and end the day.
